Another quote from T.K.V Desikachar’s The Heart of Yoga which has stood out:
“The way yoga is taught nowadays often gives the impression that there is one solution to everyone’s problems and one treatment for every illness. But yoga affects the mind, primarily, and each person’s mind is different.”
T.K.V Desikachar – The Heart of Yoga
In the media we’re often presented with a ‘one size fits all’ approach when it comes to health and well-being. For example, “everyone should be vegan” or “everyone needs to do HIIT exercises”.
This completely disregards the fact the everyone’s bodies are different, everyone’s mental health needs are different, and everyone’s emotional needs are different. What works for one of us might not work for another; we are all unique.
What are your thoughts on the ‘one size fits all’ approach to health and well-being that is in the media at the moment? What advice have you been given which is not supportive of your unique circumstances?
